This is a list of problems and questions most users have with
Font Runner.

Q: |
Why do some fonts display various characters as squares?
|
|
A: |
A character is displayed as a blank square
when it is not found in the font's character set. There are a number of reasons a
character would be missing from a font:
- The font only contains uppercase or lowercase letters
- It is a shareware font. Some
letters and numbers are deliberately omitted from shareware fonts so that a potential customer
can download and try a font before purchasing it. After paying for it, the customer
receives the full version of the font.
- It is a symbol font that contains only a few symbols.

Q: |
Why does the Back Button become disabled after I do a refresh?
|
|
A: |
This is by design. After rebuilding the tree in the
Explorer Pane, Font Runner
is unable to keep an accurate history of previously visited folders.
To avoid complications, the previous folder history is reset.

Q: |
Some fonts (especially symbol fonts) are difficult to read.
If the font's name is displayed using its own face, how do I know its
name?
|
|
A: |
There are three ways of seeing the name of a font if it is illegible in
the font list.
- Let the mouse cursor sit over the font name for a second or two.
A tool tip will appear displaying the name of the font.
- Click on the font. The Status Bar
will display all the font information contained in the font list.
- For the name and all font information, right-click on the font and
select, Font Information... from the pop-up menu.

Q: |
When I double-click a font, (or select Open from the
pop-up menu) it opens another application. How do I configure
which application launches when I open a font file?
|
|
A: |
When a font is opened with Font Runner, (by double-clicking it or selecting
Open from the right-click pop-up menu) it simply asks the Windows
operating system to open the file. So, whatever application is associated
with .ttf files, opens the the font. Since changing this association varies
amongst the different flavors of Windows, please consult your Windows documentation
on how to change which applications are associated with certain file types.

Q: |
How is the Favorite Fonts Folder
feature useful?
|
|
A: |
The Favorite Fonts Folder is intended for fonts that you've used in various
projects, but don't need them installed all the time. When you find
a font that you utilize in a project, you can move it to your Favorite Folder.
Over time, your Favorite Fonts Folder may contain many fonts that you
otherwise may have installed. Remember, having too many fonts installed
can bog down many applications.

Q: |
Why do some fonts have an icon that reads, "TT" and
some say, "O".
|
|
A: |
Fonts that are labeled with a "TT" icon are TrueType fonts.
Fonts that are labeled with an "O" icon are OpenType fonts.
The OpenType font format is an extension of the TrueType font format.
OpenType fonts are also referred to as TrueType Open v.2.0 fonts and are
backwards compatible with TrueType fonts. The OpenType font
format was developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe. For more information
visit the
Microsoft Typography Website.
